So I've been in school for like, 8 weeks now and I haven't even said much about it. Well, here goes:

School is absolutely crazy! Sometimes I don't know how to feel because I have so much work to do. I don't enjoy many of the assignments because it's all abstract crap. Hopefully things will get better, after all this is the first year that tries to make you do a little bit of everything. I can definitely tell I am not one of the stronger/more creative students here. But to tell you the truth, that doesnt bother me. Because I am improving. I can go back and look at my stuff from the first week of school and go, "wow, I'm getting better already!"

Every day I have a class at 8am and that is killing me a little. I've never been good at waking up in the morning, but I'll probably finally be used to it around end of this month (I know this because I had to wake up even earlier during high school for early morning band practice, around 6am. By the time I was finally used to waking up so early, the season was nearly over!!) I get out around 3:20 the days I have 2 classes (with an hour an a half lunch break) and the days I have 3 classes I am done at 6:20, with a break after my 12:30 to 3:20 class.

So my favie classes are Drawing, Structural, Art History, DDT and Painting. I don't like 2D because its boring and I don't get along well with my teacher at all. I went to the wrong 2D class my first day, and it was taught by this Russian lady, and I liked how she ran her classes alot better. I know its my fault for not switching classes when I had the chance. Maybe I can change for next semester. I don't like 3D because I wont be using it for my major and I am no good at it! The teacher is very nice though. He likes to talk...alot. And as for Color Concept? It's just boring, I still am supposed to buy an $80 book for it, and yuck! However, the next project is going to be fun!!

Alright, so here is a bit that I wanna include in future journals, updated every two weeks or so, the projects section. Class, and project. Sounds like fun!

Drawing I:
We almost never have homework, drawing in class, sketch one thing a day at home!! However, over the next 3 weeks, we need to be working on a still-life at home er dorm. All done in 4H. Ouch.

2D:
Create an infinite amount of space using abstract objects. Using size, placement and contrast, I need to make it seem it's reaching into infinity! For example, someone used an object based of off toy jacks, the result looked like find the hay in the needle stack! We just finished a project where we had to draw 50 shapes (rectalinear forms, triangles and circles) and then use gouache paints, for two identical paintings. Use the greyscale for one, and for the other make it exactly the same except add roughly 30% of one color. I chose green.

3D:
Ooookay. First we had to create a perfect 3x3x3 cube. We've had to create plane, mass, beams 5 times in the class over the time we've been there. Using illustration board, we've had to design a p/m/b project. Only one could touch the base that we also had to make, they had to be all different sizes, visually interesting from all angles, it had to balance, be EXTREMELY PRECISE and very very neat. 4 of the designs had to be different the 5th and final could be a revamp of one of the others or a new design entirely. They are so so so so so so so time consuming! X.x Also, we had cut two blocks out of wood, and make a cut on one block so that they fit together perfectly!
Currently, we are creating our final p/m/b out of wood! I want to die. Also we are finishing up the blocks, spackling, sanding, gluing and painting them. Eventually that must be done to the p/m/b. A little further out, we have to create a Halloween mask that I should be working on now...*dies a little*

Structural Drawing:
We've had projects every week so I won't describe them all to you. Basically we've been working with one-point for almost the whole time. We create grids in class, and use tracing paper overlays for our work. We've made rooms and 3D letters. Now we are moving onto two-point perspective. Our current project is to find a rectilinear form (mine is a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper) and replicate it perfectly in two-point.

Art History:
Just had a test over the Renaissance (Italian and Northern). We covered some Mannerism and Gothic work as well. Now I think we're going to move onto Baroque, which I am excited about!! Our teacher is too, its her favorite period.

Fundamentals of Painting:
We've been working on a single still-life (a bottle, box, glove, lightbulb, part of a bag and striped tablecloth) since the beginning of school. I am slow and missed class so I am very very behind. o.@ I hope I can catch up...

DDT: Alot of projects, working in Illustrator and Photoshop. We've also been working with type, replicating it by hand, studying fonts and history of type. It's definately a more graphic design class. It's pretty easy though.

Color Concept:

I dont want to go into Color Concept. > : (
